about the artist
About
Caroline fell in love with art when she was eight years old. She was hooked when she saw an artist throwing pottery at an art festival. Her mom recognized the instant fondness Caroline showed for the craft, and bought her bake-in-the-oven clay. Her imagination would run wild as she spent all her free time creating little animals and houses.
She took art in jr. high, attended community classes, and in High School, took Ceramics 2 every semester. Caroline then went to BYUH and studied under Sculptor Viliami Toluta’u. Next, she had a mentorship with Victor Amor and by this time, she knew she wanted to be a sculptor.
She found work in a bronze foundry, Alchemy Arts in Springville, Utah, where she found her true calling in art via bronze. She learned firsthand every step of the process from mold making, to welding, and patina. Of her time there, she often says: “Bronze is such a special process. You are taking something impermanent and saying ‘this is important, this needs to be preserved’ and making it permanent. I think that underlying thought is a strong current through all of my work.”
She kept her common art skills sharp by spending time teaching art lessons to kids and adults. While she taught them the basics, she herself would get the helpful reminder to stick to the basics and approach every project with an audience in mind.
